Optional Technical Site Visits

These tours may be cancelled and a full refund issued if minimum numbers are not achieved.

1.         Friday 27th July, 12.30pm – 3.30pm

Mt Stromlo:              (a) Observatory and

          (b) Laser Tracking Station

Delegates will be picked up from Rydges Lakeside at 12.30pm to travel to Mt Stromlo Observatory (approximately 20 minutes).  Light lunches are available at the Red Belly Black Restaurant.  An organised tour of the Mt. Stromlo observatory (a fully operational astronomical observatory with large telescopes and modern instrumentation and acts as the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics of the Australian National University) will be conducted prior to being escorted by a guide to the Laser Tracking Station where you will view Satellite Laser Ranging, GPS Tracker, GLONASS Tracker and a DORIS Beacon.  Delegates will be returned to Rydges Lakeside by approximately 3.30 pm.

NB. This tour is limited to minimum of 15 and a maximum of 30 people

Tickets $30 per person

2.         Friday 27th July 12.30pm - 4.30pm

Tidbinbilla

Delegates will be picked up at Rydges Lakeside at 12.30pm to travel by coach to Tidbinbilla (approximately 30 minutes).  Tidbinbilla is the only active tracking station in Australia and is used for deep space probes and manned space flights.  Delegates will be transported by coach around the site with a guided commentary along the way.  You will also have the chance to visit the public visitor centre and have a bite to eat from the kiosk.  Delegates will be returned to Rydges Lakeside at approximately 4.30pm.

NB. This tour is limited to a minimum of 15 and maximum of 40 people
