The Event

The Australian Global Positioning Systems Society (GPS Society Inc.) is proud to host SatNav 2003, an event featuring workshops and free trade exhibition. The 6th International Conference on Satellite Navigation Technology including Mobile Positioning & Location Services will be held at the Hyatt Melbourne from Tuesday 22 July to Friday 25th July, 2003.

The conference is co-sponsored by the International Association of Chinese Professionals in Global Positioning Systems (CPGPS) and is supported by the Australian Institute of Navigation and leading organisations in surveying, navigation and positioning. This support ensures that SatNav 2003 will again be the premier event on navigation and location services in the Australasian region.

The Conference

The Conference will cover 10 technical sessions on current topics of System Development and Applications, expanding on the workshop contents.

Call for Papers - Abstracts

Abstracts are only accepted on the basis that presenters must register for the conference and pay the subsidised presenters registration fee of $495.00 by no later than 3rd June, 2003.

Invitations are extended to provide an abstract by no later than 26th January, 2003. Format for submission of abstracts can be accessed from the Call for Abstracts pdf file below.

Refereed Papers

Full papers will be reviewed before acceptance of contributions to the Conference in order to ensure the highest quality and to meet the requirements for refereed publication standards. The proceedings will be published by Menay Pty Ltd, Australia in CD format.

Key Dates for Paper Presenters

  • Submission of Abstracts: 26th January, 2003
  • Acceptance of Abstract for inclusion in the program will be notified by letter: 15th March, 2003
  • Speakers Agreement form returned: 4th April, 2003
  • Audiovisual Requirements form returned: 4th April, 2003
  • Agreement to Publish form returned: 4th April, 2003
  • Full Papers (formatted for publishing): 15th May, 2003
  • Registration Form & Payment: on or before 3rd June, 2003
  • Powerpoint Presentations emailed: 1st July, 2003

Conference Papers

A set of Conference papers will be published on CD and provided to each delegate on arrival at the Conference. This will be a refereed publication. The guidelines for format of papers is as follows:

Please email your full paper as a Word 97 IBM format only by no later than 15th May, 2003. An email advising receipt of your electronic copy of the paper will be forwarded to you immediately. Papers will be forwarded to the paper referee and returned to you for editing if necessary. A letter advising acceptance of full papers will be forwarded as soon as possible after this date.

Heading Format

  • title (centred);
  • author(s);
  • presenter(s) underlined;
  • a short biography for each (50 words);
  • a short abstract (200 words); and
  • main text (introduction, main text, conclusions, acknowledgments, references).

Page Format

  • margins 25ml all round;
  • it is preferred that column presentation is not used;
  • headers and footers should not be used.

Type Style

  • Times 12 preferred. Times New Roman 12 or Times Roman 12 is acceptable;
  • left & right justification;
  • Headings: capitals and bold;
  • Sub-headings: upper and lower case and bold;
  • Sub-subheadings: upper and lower case and underlined.

References

  • Author's last name, author's initials (separated by full-stops), year of publication, title of reference, name of journal, volume & number (if a journal), page numbers, city & publisher (if a book). All entries separated by a comma.
  • In the text, the reference is cited by giving the author's last name and the year of publication in parenthesis.

Page Numbers & Paper Length

  • Ideally 8 - 10 pages

Clearance & Agreement to Publish

  • It is the author's responsibility to clear the publication of their article with their own organisation.
  • The paper should not have been previously published in other journals or conference proceedings.
  • The supply of your material is on the understanding that you grant permission for all or extracts of your abstract to be used in any of our publicity to promote the Conference and to attract delegates to attend. Please sign and return by fax the attached form.

Powerpoint Presentations:

To ensure that there are no problems with your presentation, we ask that all powerpoint presentations are emailed to this office by no later than 1st July, 2003. Our AV support team will check your presentation and load it onto the on site computers ready for your presentation. N.B. As a backup, it is imperative that a copy of your powerpoint presentation should also be brought with you to the Conference.

 
The Australian GPS Society Awards for Excellence:

Pursuant to its aims of developing and advancing Excellence in the Navigation Sciences, the Australian GPS Society recognises individual accomplishments through the sponsorship of awards. These awards will be made at each biennial SATNAV Conference. Nominations for deserving candidates for awards are welcome and may be made by individuals or organisations during the first 2 (two) days of each SATNAV Conference. Each nomination must be in written form and submitted to the Conference Registration Desk. The Organising Committee and Scientific Review Panel will select the award winner from the nominees. The awards will be announced at the closing sessions of the Conference. Each award winner will be presented with a Plaque and Certificate of Achievement.

The following is a brief summary of all awards granted by the Australian GPS Society.

  1. Best Student Paper Award will be presented to a full time student who is the principal author of a high quality paper presented at the Conference.
  2. The Best Academic Paper Award will be presented to an author who is part of the academic staff at an Australian or overseas University or tertiary institution.
  3. The Best Workshop Award will be presented for the workshop that best promotes the development and dissemination of high quality technology transfer packages.
  4. The Best Exhibition Trade Booth will be presented to the Exhibitor providing the best GPS technically equipped stand

Free Trade Exhibition

A free trade exhibition is included in the Conference Registration.
SATNAV 2003 is the only:

exhibition serving the Australasian region in 2003. This is a great opportunity to see the latest products offered by leaders in the field of equipment and services in positioning, navigation and more.

The exhibition will include leading application developers and will be held concurrently with the Conference.

The exhibition aims to provide an extension of the learning experience. Free Exhibitor Forums will highlight the most recent product developments in this area.

International and National companies will present their latest products in the Exhibition Hall from Wednesday 23rd July to Friday 25th July inclusive.
